One of our favourite yarns, Q-NOVA® by Fulgar is currently featured in eight of our products. Once made into a fabric, it transforms into a soft and comfortable sustainable alternative, that is created from waste.
What is Q-NOVA® by Fulgar?
Q-NOVA® by Fulgar is a recycled Nylon 6.6, which is made exclusively from yarn discards from Fulgar’s yarn production cycle. Normally, these yarn discards would have been thrown away as external waste, however, Fulgar captured them and transformed them into Q-NOVA® by Fulgar. The result is a yarn that has the ability to produce a lightweight and durable fabric. Fulgar also aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, consume less water and use renewable energy.
How is it made?
Once the yarn discards are gathered, a mechanical regeneration system begins, which re-melts the waste material before redeveloping it into a form of polymer. Because it is mechanical, all of the processing stages are done without the use of chemicals. As a result of this technique, carbon dioxide emissions are drastically reduced by 80% and water usage per kilogram of product is decreased by 90% compared to a textured polyamide yarn made from virgin polymer.
Why have we chosen to use it?
Like us, sustainability is one of the main pillars of Fulgar’s policy. Their environmental policy rests on three cornerstones: a low energy consumption production process, close attention to material recycling and the usage of a traceability system for the final product. We always aim to source recycled materials first so Fulgar’s ability to transform waste makes them the perfect partner for us.
