By Sarah London is a firm favourite for the Riley Studio team, so we caught up with co-founders and sisters Sarah and Lauren to share their journey and to hear more about the benefits of their multi award-winning, natural and organic skincare collection. They are on a mission to pioneer greater transparency and sustainability in skincare, and have exciting plans for the future. From a full ingredient list on the front label, to their curated organic, plant-based collection and eco-friendly packaging, every aspect has been carefully designed to enhance your overall wellbeing and have a positive environmental impact.
RS: Why was By Sarah London created?
Lauren: Sarah created organic, plant based blends to help my sensitive skin when I was recovering from leukaemia. I loved how they transformed my fragile skin and Sarah then started to share her formulations more widely. Sarah always loved making skincare at home and it was her passion and understanding of the importance of natural skincare to nurture the skin that set us on the path to launch By Sarah London together in 2017.
RS: Where are the products made? How did you come up with the blends?
Sarah: I worked in the skincare industry and knew the importance of choosing organic, plant based ingredients to keep skin healthy and glowing. I travelled and researched ingredients to fully understand their nutrient profiles and the best formulations to benefit all skin types and both men and women. I refined my blends over the years and I'm totally delighted that our collection has won 8 industry-leading awards to date! All of our collection is handmade in the UK.
RS: With sustainability at your core, can you tell us a little bit more about your packaging and why you use it?
Lauren: End-to-end sustainability is at the heart of By Sarah. From our curated organic plant-based, cruelty-free formulations and eco-friendly packaging, every aspect has been carefully designed to enhance your overall wellbeing and have a positive environmental impact. Every ingredient supports your skin health and wellbeing, without compromising the planet, and we use recyclable glass bottles and jars and recyclable cardboard postal boxes - with a crushed grape paper insert, a material we also use for our Christmas Gift Sets: a UK skincare first!
RS: Which product would you recommend trying first as a new customer and why?
Sarah: Our Organic Facial Oil. It's our universal, everyday lightweight vegan face oil you can enjoy each morning and evening, applied to slightly damp skin - with no other creams, serums, or eye creams required. Take a moment to gently massage into the skin to aid absorption into the deeper layers of the skin. And with no water, essential oils or fragrance, it's suitable for all skin types, including dry, sensitive and oily-prone, and both men and women.
RS: What’s one of your tips for living a more sustainable life?
Lauren : Before you buy anything new, set your intention. What's most important to you: Buying something that is ethical? Or organic? Free yourself from excess products that don't align with your values.
Sarah: Upcycle! It's one of the best ways to breathe life into products that would otherwise be sent to landfill. The next time you finish the Organic Facial Oil, upcycle the amber glass bottle into a single stem vase - and share with us on social!
