Although we may be seasonless and we will never hold a sale, we are always developing new lines to broaden our collection, and with the launch of a new range comes further research and development into eco-innovative fabrics. One of the critical issues within the fashion industry currently, is the amount of waste that is generated through overproduction and overconsumption, so much so that, according to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, “it is estimated that more than half of fast fashion production is disposed of in under a year”. With this thought always at the forefront of our creative direction, we have taken inspiration from our much-loved Zip Track Pants and created coordinating jackets and track pants in a range of versatile and gender-neutral colours using a fibre called Q-NOVA® by Fulgar. Meet the Co-Ord Track Jacket and the Co-Ord Track Pant.
Q-NOVA® by Fulgar is a recycled Nylon 6.6 fibre obtained exclusively from regenerated raw materials, using a traceable and certified system, leading to less waste and consumption of resources, resulting in a polymide fibre with the lowest certified environmental impact. Q-NOVA® by Fulgar is made from waste scraps from Fulgar’s Italian yarn production cycle, which would have otherwise be discarded as external waste. Through the reuse of the waste products, Fulgar are also able to reduce the use of crude oil by 25 litres per kilogram, compared to the regular production of polymer.
The fibre involves using a mechanical regenerating system that re-melts the waste material before redeveloping it into a form of polymer and integrating it into further processing stages, all without the use of chemicals. As a result of this technique, carbon dioxide emissions are drastically reduced by 80% and water usage per kilogram of product is decreased by 90% compared to a textured polyamide yarn made from virgin polymer. Incredibly, this is equivalent to saving the planet from carbon dioxide emissions produced by 543 LED lamps burning for one hour and the consumption of 159 one litre bottles of water, per kilogram of Q-NOVA® by Fulgar fibre.
The finished nylon 6.6 has enabled us to create products that are lightweight but durable, with the same qualities as fabrics made from cotton or polyester. The track pants and jackets are incredibly breathable and boast excellent moisture control, which helps the skin to stay fresh and dry. The fibre has been designed to ensure the best possible dyeing quality, as demonstrated by our vibrant red zip track pants and our new range of Co-Ords in Midnight, Clay and Forest colourways.
Lastly, Q-NOVA® by Fulgar fibre is certified and tracked by Global Recycled Standard (GRS), EU ECOLABEL and by the OEKO-TEX STD 100 CLASS 1 SYSTEM and has been evaluated by HIGG INDEX and LCA standards, all of which vouch for the integrity of the fibre.
