International Women's Day 2022

by Hello Riley |

UN Women have named the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day as Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”. A call for climate action for women, by women.

At Riley Studio we are proud to have an entirely female team and this International Women’s Day we want to celebrate this. We have always strived to create positive change and build a brand that is socially conscious in all aspects. We believe that empowerment and gender equality are key to this.

“Those who are most affected by climate change today–women, girls and marginalised communities–must be involved in the design and implementation of climate response actions to ensure the equal sharing of benefits.”
    - UN Women

UN Women have found that women’s leadership in the workplace is associated with increased transparency around climate change. We are proud to be led by women. However, in 2021 studies found that only eight of the top 100 companies in the UK have female chief executives.

Progress has been made in the efforts to achieve gender equality but there is still a long way to go. Encouraging more women to get into business creating these opportunities for them will lead to a more sustainable world whilst helping us get closer to closing the gender gap.

Having women’s perspective about the climate crisis is key in decision making. Without this perspective we are even further from creating a more sustainable and more equal future.

Not only would an increase of women in business lead to a more sustainable future, it would have huge positive impacts on the economy. In 2019 The Alison Rose Review found that if women in the UK matched men in starting and scaling businesses, £250 billion could be added to the UK economy. More women than ever are starting businesses and it’s so exciting to see. Last year more than 140,000 all-female-founded companies were created, meaning that over 20% of new firms are led by women, which is a record high. We’re so happy to be part of this change and can’t wait to see what the future holds with even more female-led businesses.
