London has plenty to offer and its extensive food scene never disappoints. However, with food waste becoming a significant global issue, we wanted to round up our favourite restaurants in London who are incorporating sustainability into their businesses. The sustainability association Too Good To Waste estimates that UK restaurants waste a staggering 1.6m tonnes of food every year, pretty crazy isn’t it?


1. CUB

Based in Hoxton, Cub is a partnership, collaboration and restaurant led by industry experts in the food and drink sector. They used considered ingredients and apply sustainable methods to create delicious food that does good too! Cub follows a simple premise of bringing people together through great food and drink. We advise booking ahead as it is a small but beautiful space.

2. WATERHOUSE

Waterhouse Restaurant is a social enterprise owned by the Shoreditch Trust, they provide support and training to young adults to enable them to transition into independent living and sustainable employment. Open from Monday to Friday for breakfast or lunch, this is one of Hackney’s hidden canal side gems.

3. PETERSHAM NURSERIES

Petersham Nurseries aims to reconnect it customers back to nature through its magical settings and sustainable sourcing. As well as choosing seasonal produce, they support organisations such as the Marine Conservation Society and Farms Not Factories, encouraging us to be mindful of how important it is to look after our environment.

4. FARMSTAND

Farmstand was founded in Covent Garden in 2016 and the menu is based on the diet the found has been following since he was diagnosed with cancer and he believes ti was vital to improving his health. They source seasonal ingredients to provide a plant-powered menu, which is 80% plant-based, 5% sustainable fish and 15% ethical meat. They have also won multiple awards for their food and sustainability.

5. RIVERFORD AT THE DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE

Britain’s only certified organic pub, in the heart of urban Islington… need we say more? The Duke of Cambridge is on a mission to minimise their environmental impacts. They transform food waste into energy, recycle extensively and all the furniture is second hand, repurposed or recycled. Their partnership with Riverford proves them commitment to sustainability!
