RS Living: Our Partnership with TreeSisters

by Riley Studio |

We are excited to announce our partnership with TreeSisters, and become part of their Reforestation Revolution.

At Riley Studio, we believe in a circular future, where people and planet work in equilibrium. The reason we set out on a mission to utilise waste and recycled materials was to limit our impact on the planet's resources, but we still leave a footprint. So for us, it is a vital part of our ethos to always give back what we take away.

Trees are the lungs of our planet and play a crucial role in our fight against climate change. They are home to over 70% of the world's animal populations, and more than 25% of our medicine originates from them. Yet every minute we lose the equivalent of 60 football pitches of forest to deforestation.

Reforestation is one of the recognised solutions to reduce carbon and we want to be part of that solution.

Who are TreeSisters?

TreeSisters is a UK charity and a global non profit organisation on a mission to rapidly accelerate tropical reforestation by inspiring and channeling women’s nature based leadership into local and global action. Their dream is for 2 million treesisters to be planting 1 billion trees a year.

“We envision a world in which it is normal for everyone to protect and restore themselves and their world” TreeSisters.

They want to support women worldwide to unify around a collective life giving mission: to protect future generations by strengthening humanity’s relationship with nature, reinstating a culture of care towards life and accelerating the restoration of the global forest.

Why have we chosen to partner with them?

TreeSisters stands at the meeting place of five of the most crucial and widely accepted issues of our time: climate change, gender, consciousness shift, behavioural change and ecological restoration. They believe that to restore our world, we need to restore ourselves first.

These issues are core to our own mission at Riley Studio so we felt there was a strong synergy with our ethos and TreeSisters.

We are aligned to three key Sustainable Development Goals:

  • SDG 5 - Gender Equality
  • SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production
  • SDG 13 - Climate Action

Research tells us that women are disproportionately impacted by climate change than men, due to underlying socioeconomic, political, and legal barriers that limit their choices. If women’s leadership and participation in environmental issues increases there are opportunities to build resilient communities, and put sustainability at the heart of decision making. Women make up 85% of consumer decisions and are the gatekeepers of their household expenditure. So their desire to consume through values based organisations can support the essential shift from consuming to restoring our world.

Our Trees For Transactions Campaign

We have made a commitment that for every sale of our Project Earth T-Shirt we will plant 5 trees with TreeSisters, to help replenish and restore our planet and actively seed the future we want to create for our future generations.

We will keep you updated with how we are progressing and monitor our impact as we go. This is something we are very excited about and look forward to creating a lasting relationship with TreeSisters.

What projects have TreeSisters worked on?

Recent projects include a forest corridor between the last remaining fragments of the Atlantic Forest in Brazil, the ring of forest around Mt Kenya and Kenya’s water tower, the coastal mangrove forests in Madagascar and the vital forest around the last 250 critically endangered Gorillas on Mt Bamboutos in Cameroon.

How can you get involved individually?

You can plant some trees yourself on the TreeSister website and whether it’s a one off or a monthly donation every tree helps TreeSisters reach their goal!

Another easy way to help plant trees is to switch your search engine browser over to Ecosia. They use their profits from search ads to plant trees across the world, and so far have planted more than 54 million trees! Read more about Ecosia on our Journal here.
