Selfridges launched their Project Earth initiative to kick-start a radical change in their business to take them in a more sustainable direction.

The initiative is designed to shine a light on more sustainable ways to shop and we are very excited to have some of our own products available. In collaboration with this initiative we have designed the ‘Project Earth’ T-Shirt.

Partnering with TreeSisters, we will plant 5 trees with every 'Project Earth' t-shirt sold. TreeSisters is a UK charity and a global non profit organisation on a mission to rapidly accelerate tropical reforestation by inspiring and channeling women’s nature based leadership into local and global action. Their dream is for 2 million treesisters to be planting 1 billion trees a year. They want to support women worldwide to unify around a collective life giving mission: to protect future generations by strengthening humanity’s relationship with nature, reinstating a culture of care towards life and accelerating the restoration of the global forest. What are they made from?

Our ‘Project Earth’ T-Shirts have been created using recot²®, which is a mix of recycled cotton and GOTS certified organic cotton, this improves the eco-balance of organic cotton. Eco-balance is the consumption of energy and resources, along with the pollution created by production. The recycled cotton fibres come from waste, including yarn discards and fabric scraps. Recot²® is composed of 75% organic cotton and 25% recycled cotton.

Where were they made?

These t-shirts were made in our trusted Sedex member factory, Esfani, in Portugal. They were made using Recot²® from Gebrüder Otto, in Germany, which was then sent to Lurdes Sampaio, in Portugal, to be knitted into a fabric. We spend time choosing members of our supply chain by regarding their attitude to sustainability and transparency.

What makes them more sustainable?

They are made from organic and recycled cotton, and made in ethical and environmentally friendly facilities. Each purchase of this t-shirt also plants 5 trees through our partnership with TreeSisters.
