We are very excited to be launching our latest collection and share with you what we have been working on for the past year. Since the pandemic began, the world has been turned upside down and life as we know it has changed forever. We believe people have learnt to love the little things in life and Collection 06 was created with this in mind.
What inspired the collection?
Designed at home during lockdown in the UK, Collection 06 was inspired by the need for comfort. Lightweight and breathable organic linens and sustainable knitwear pieces create a collection of weightless layers, adding an elevated element to loungewear in warmer weather.
“Designing from home influenced a collection that felt like it could belong at home” - Jenna Rankin, Riley Studio Designer.
The colour palette of muted, neutral tones and textures was drawn from an inspiration by artist and printmaker Zarina Hashmi and her use of considered line.
One piece in particular, ‘Home is a Foreign Place, 1999'. In this series of woodblock prints Zarina reflected on her childhood home in India and her connection to the concept of ‘'home''. This felt significant at a time when we all began experiencing a new relationship with our homes, working from home, exercising from home, ‘'zoom'' socialising. Suddenly our whole world seems to be inside four walls, within which we felt the desire to create a safe and sacred space, reflected in the comfort of Collection 06.
How were the clothes designed?
Silhouettes are kept relaxed, shoulders dropped, waistbands elasticated, and cuffs adorned with adjustable button tabs. So legs and sleeves can be cinched and tapered, or left flowing in the summer breeze.
Out was anything tailored, stiff or uncomfortable. It felt only right that each piece could equally be worn outside on a walk, as it could while lazing in bed on a Sunday afternoon. Colours were left muted and natural, with pops of fresh blues and understated ink blacks. Loungewear pieces were elevated to soft white to give a sophisticated luxe to our pillowy soft recycled jersey.
What are the clothes made from?
Fabrics were chosen for having the highest sustainable credentials, but they also had to meet the softness and luxurious hand feel, we felt this collection required. Delicate recycled cashmere knits, breathable organic cotton knits, crisp recycled polyamides, washed organic linen and soft organic twills.
